Backup Exec 2010 provides continuous disk-based and traditional tape-based data protection. It can protect a single server, multiple servers, application servers like Exchange, UNIX and Linux servers, a storage area network, desktop computers, notebook computers, and virtual environments.
At the core of the Backup Exec system is the Backup Exec Media Server, which controls the backup media (disk, network attached storage, or tape). The media server's administration console provides an intuitive interface and wizards to simplify installation, setup, backup, recovery, media management, disaster preparation, cluster installation, and agent configuration.
Administrators can define policies to manage backup jobs and strategies. Policies contain job templates with attributes that define how and when Backup Exec processes a job.
Agents and options extend platform and feature support for Backup Exec environments. An unlimited number of these agents can be used within a network, allowing for multiple instances of agents to protect several servers. The version of Backup Exec available through Stifter-helfen.de - IT for Nonprofits is the Not for Resale (NFR) version, which includes all of the available agents and options.
Free support is available through the Backup Exec standard online support programme, using Symantec online knowledge bases.
