Hardware server hosting primary SBS 2008 installation:

  • 2-GHz (or higher) x64 processor
  • 4 GB RAM; 6 – 8 GB recommended; 32 GB maximum
  • 60 GB available hard-disk space

Additional hardware server:

  • 2-GHz (or higher) x86 or x64 processor
  • 2 GB RAM; 4 GB (x86) or 32 GB (x64) maximum
  • 10 GB available hard-disk space; 40 GB recommended

Both servers:

  • DVD drive
  • 800x600-pixel (or higher) display recommended or hardware that supports console redirection

Supported client operating systems:

  • Windows XP Professional Edition SP2 or later; Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, Ultimate; Windows Mobile 5.0 or later

Other:

  • For some server functionality — Internet access and a Windows Live ID account
  • For Internet access — broadband or high-speed-modem Internet connection
  • To use fax service — dedicated Class 1 fax modem

Technical restrictions:

  • Windows Small Business Server 2008 supports a maximum of 75 users or devices.
  • The server must be the root domain controller of the forest.
  • The server must hold the flexible single master operations (FSMO) roles.
  • The server must be a global catalog.
  • There can be no inter-forest trusts or child domains.
  • Terminal Services Application Mode is disabled on the primary server

Beschreibung: 

Small Business Server 2008 Premium Edition includes the technologies of SBS 2008 Standard Edition as well as software to run on a second server that is dedicated to supporting a number of line-of-business (LOB) applications. It provides small organisations with many of the features used by large organisations — file and printer sharing, an email server, tools to manage Internet access, internal Web sites (intranets), remote access, support for mobile devices, backup/restore tools, and online transaction processing (OLTP) and business intelligence (BI) applications — in an integrated product that supports up to 75 users.

Small Business Server 2008 is only available as a 64-bit operating system and can only be installed on a server with a 64-bit processor. However, the second server supporting line-of-business applications can have a 32- or 64-bit processor.

Included Technologies: Small Business Server 2008 Premium combines several Windows server technologies and works best when used with two hardware servers. The first server hosts the following technologies included in SBS 2008 Standard:

  • The core Windows Server 2008 technologies, including network tools and network security; file, print, and application sharing; and firewall protection (but not including technologies appropriate only to medium-to-large enterprises)
  • SharePoint Services for an internal Web site
  • Exchange Server 2007 for email, messaging, personal information management, and shared calendaring
  • Server Update Services for automated network-wide patch and update management
  • Shared Fax Service

The second server hosts the following technologies only included in SBS 2008 Premium:

  • Windows Server 2008 Standard technologies for SBS Premium
  • SQL Server 2008 Standard for Small Business for integrated data management and reporting (a copy of SQL Server 2005 Standard is included for customers using applications that are not yet certified for use on SQL Server 2008)

Note: You can install SQL Server on either server. If you install SQL Server on the hardware server hosting Standard Edition technologies, the SQL Server management tools cannot be installed on that server but must be installed on another computer on the domain.

Licences Included: This product includes two types of licences:

  • A server licence
  • Five premium client access licences (CALs) that can be used for either users or devices

These CALs can also be used to access instances of Exchange Server 2007, SQL Server 2008, or any other Windows servers within the Windows Small Business Server 2008 domain.

Acquiring the Installation Media and Licence Key: Installing this product requires installation media and a licence key. Instructions for obtaining the licence key will be sent to your organisation email address after your eligibility has been verified and your administrative fee has been received.
