This enterprise external connector (EC) license can be used only in conjunction with a standard Office Communications Server EC license. It authorizes any number of external users or devices to access certain features on a single installation of Office Communications Server. The features licensed through the enterprise Office Communications Server EC license include web conferencing, voice over IP, and application sharing.

Generally, an external user is defined as anyone who is not an employee of the organisation. For example, external users can include clients, suppliers, and alumni of the organisation. External users do not include independent contractors, agents, service providers, or other persons providing services to or on behalf of the organisation holding the license.

The EC license may not be used as a means of reselling or repackaging Office Communications Server as a hosted service.
